5 tips for choosing the right photographer

How to choose the right photographer for your brand

You finally realize you need a professional photographer to update your portraits and lifestyle images to build your brand. You have decided to have fun while doing that because it should be, right? It is a photo shoot. You have a list of some photographers on your note, but you don’t know which one to choose the right photographer for you.

Here are the 5 tips to consider that I hope can help you:

  1. Check their websites. Photography is a visual work, and seeing their websites will give you a glimpse of the photographer's style, how your photos would then look (dark, vibrant, natural, traditional, modern), and the quality of the photo itself. Does it look honest and beautiful at the same time? Then, read their About page to learn about their values and principles. Do you connect with them? Do their values and work ethic align with yours?

  2. With personal branding photography, it is good to consider the photographer's specialization. For example, a real estate photographer or a landscape photographer probably doesn’t understand the strategy to capture branding photography you will use for your business.

If you love the photographer's style but are unsure, reach out to them, as I share in tip #3. While you are on their website, check the services that are included in the photo session. If you already know what you want in your branding photography, then you can share this with your photographer. The challenge is if you want to brainstorm about your brand and strategize the images for marketing or promotional needs. Then, it is probably wise to look for a specialized brand photographer.

  3. Connection is everything. It is important that you feel relaxed with your photographer. Reach out to them and set up a discovery video call; you would then know how you feel when you chat with them. A discovery call is for free, so why not? After that interaction, evaluate how the whole experience made you feel.

  4. Trust that first instinct. But you can wait to decide. At least, that’s how I decided: I thought about all the aspects before I finalized. But don’t wait too long; it can turn you into analysis paralysis. Decide, and once you decide, act on it. Trust that you can make big decisions because you have thought them through.

  5. It is a big plus if your photographer provides a 100% satisfaction guarantee. This shows their commitment to the quality of their work and how they want their customers to be happy. Then you have nothing to lose.

Those are the five tips I could share with you to help you choose the right photographer. Do you feel at ease now that you know what to do next?
